How To Throw A Successful Dinner Party

Throwing a successful dinner party can be a stressful and exciting experience for everyone. They want to plan a perfect evening. They want things to end well and they want all of their guests to feel happy and well taken care of when the night is over. So there are many ways to make a dinner party a success, but here are a few options to help people out.

  • Plan the food according to different tastes. If it is possible it is good to find out people's food preferences before the party. For instance, if the guests are vegetarian then people will not want to make steak. But it will never be possible to please everyone. So people should try to make a couple of different things that go along with their main theme so that everyone can find something on the table that they will like.
  • Make sure there is enough seating and enough space. People can sit close together, but people will not like being packed in like sardines.
  • Provide appropriate background music. Quiet music in the background will create a great atmosphere. It will promote quiet conversation and it will keep people calm. But people can also use that music to cover up and uncomfortable silences. The silence is not so awkward when there is nice music playing instead of the sounds of people eating and drinking.
  • Keep a comfortable temperature. People will enjoy themselves more if they are not too hot or too cold. People can get their cooling system checked out by calling air conditioning service Fresno. They can get it all checked out by the air conditioning experts to make sure that everything is ready for the party. They would not want the air conditioning to stop working on a warm night when a party is happening.
  • Provide clean and comfortable restrooms. Guests will feel more comfortable when there are nice and clean bathrooms that are easily accessed. They do not want to feel awkward about using the restroom because that will make them go home sooner and not feeling as well.
Again, there are so many different ways to create a successful dinner party. People will have to decide what will work for them. But hopefully these few ideas gave them ideas of where to start. Then they can meet the basic needs of their guests so that everyone can have a good night at the party. People will enjoy themselves so much that they will not want to go home. People will love the feeling of having a successful party for their friends or for their coworkers. It could always help their career to be known as the person that throws great house parties.

How Fashionable Is Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie is the goddess in our minds I believe, she represents the fashion and beauty. There is a very fashionable photo which shows out Angelina Jolie in the title role of the Disney film "Maleficent," and she does have that regal-yet-spooky dragon lady look. The film is in production and due for release in 2014. We can definitely see potential here for a makeup line of smoky looks. The film, directed by Robert Stromberg, stars Jolie, Elle Fanning, Imelda Staunton, Miranda Richardson and Juno Temple.

Angelina Jolie also turn into a fashion police -- a real fashion police who were out in force Tuesday for the opening of the annual Royal Ascot races. Fashion cops like the one pictured here were enforcing the event's new dress code -- passing out pashminas to cover bare shoulders, fascinators for uncovered heads and ties and waistcoats for gentlemen who needed them.

While we're thinking of the British Isles, the BBC has given its Amateur Scientist of the Year Award to a woman who proved that horizontal stripes make the wearer look fatter. Um, no kidding.

Justin Bieber's first fragrance, Someday, was a blockbuster, with annual sales reaching $39 million. Now the crooner is back with Girlfriend, which he described as a "more mature" version of its predecessor, which was the No. 1 women's fragrance launch of 2011. Girlfriend went on sale at Macy's and other retailers on Monday.

Grey's Anatomy Redux: Which Doctor Is In Danger?

Grey's Anatomy
Everything the doctors have worked for is riding on one exam. No pressure or anything. Our favorite doctors' futures may end with a failing grade. Who cracked, who got hot and heavy, and who finally confessed love?

Failure to Launch: Much of this week's Grey's took place outside of Seattle. With so much on the line, it was fun to watch the doctors squirm. Everyone reacts to pressure differently. Cristina (Sandra Oh) gets defensive. Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) becomes a badass. Alex (Justin Chambers) yells. Jackson (Jesse Williams) gets irritated. And April (Sarah Drew) freaks the hell out before getting philosophical.

Most surprising part of the exams was Jackson and April getting freaky in the bathroom. Alas, Jesus must really not have liked her transgression that time, because she failed exam.

We discovered the secret to Bailey's (Chandra Wilson) brilliant advice. Derek (Patrick Dempsey) finds himself as the go-to guy for all sort of problem, but mainly for Mark and Lexie. Bailey gives him sage advice: The trick of her trade is always a metaphor. That way, the doc in need can take advice without ever placing blame for the outcome. Genius. Miranda Bailey is an evil genius.

Let's make a season-finale checklist. So far, we know there is a death, a cliffhanger and that the cast bawled through the table read. We admit it, we are scared. Creator Shonda Rhimes has never been one to shy away from the sad and dramatic, so buckle up for a roller coaster of emotions.

Sarah Drew told us that when one resident fails the board exams it "creates a lot of drama amongst all the residents." First her virginity and now her future as a doctor? We expect another meltdown.

This episode only convinced us that the core relationship of the show is truly Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Meredith (Ellen Pompeo). We loved the old-school Grey's with Cristina helping Meredith during her worst hour. Nothing says friendship like a surgical mask and IV fluids. Similar to laying down on an OR floor, Cristina doesn't leave Meredith's side. Something not as great is their breakup scene. If Cristina leaves Owen (Kevin McKidd) and Seattle, she'll also be leaving her person, Meredith.

"I miss you" and "I need you, Lex" are things we actually dream about hearing from Mark (Eric Dane) and Lexie (Chyler Leigh) these days. And if we close our eyes and forget the context, then tonight's episode was heaven. That is until Lexie cries. It absolutely killed us when Lexie finally admitted to Derek that she still is in love with Mark. She was just so desperately sad that we have to convince ourselves that it's a matter of time before they reunite. If Chyler Leigh cries, we cry. P.S.: How amazing is Derek as an older brother to Lexie?

One resident will fail their board exam, and Sarah Drew says it will, "create a lot of drama amongst all the residents." We saw Alex fail to make it to his exam tonight, but could he end up coming in under the wire while someone else fails?

There's not much way around the finale facts. "We know somebody dies. It's really really intense. Everyone bawled their way through the table read for the finale," Drew dishes. And most unsettling, "Everything is up in the air at the end of the finale." Death and a cliffhanger? We're going to need some therapy over the summer.

Holy hot hookup, Batman! If you've been living under a rock you might have missed that a steaming hookup between April and Jackson (Jesse Williams) is imminent. So what pushed these friends towards the bedroom? "April goes through some pretty dramatic things, starting with being completely stressed out about failing," Drew explains. "I think she is just jumping out of her skin." And apparently out of her clothes, but does this mean April loses her V-card to Jackson? "They definitely hookup but I can't tell you if he loses her virginity or not."

We all know April isn't the most laid-back of characters but Drew puts it more bluntly: "She's a basket case. She's on a totally emotional rollercoaster knowing that one out of five people fail the exam." But this stress might actually lead to some good changes for April. "We really get to see a pretty cool transformation in her that I think that some people with love and some people are not going to love," says Drew. Maybe April does have reason to worry about passing the board exams: "Yes, there is one person who does fail. And that creates a lot of drama amongst all the residents." What is Grey's Anatomy without drama?

Speaking of crazy drama, it's season finale time and creator Shonda Rhimes know how to bring the tears out like flood waters. This year will be no exception. "We know somebody dies. It's really really intense. Everyone bawled their way through the table read for the finale," Drew dishes. "It's huge, it's big, it's sad, and it's intense. And it's left really unsettled. Everything is up in the air at the end of the finale." Sounds like a shocking Grey'scliffhanger if we've ever heard one.

Kirstle Alley Has Been Dating Younger Men

KIRSTIE Alley
KIRSTIE Alley was worried she’d meet the same fate as David Hasselhoff onDancing With the Stars.

Sources say the actress feared being voted off first.

“Kirstie’s only wish was that she wouldn’t be the first star sent home from the show,” a pal told PopEater.

“She has been rehearsing for the past six weeks with her partner, Max, in almost total seclusion. No contestants really had any idea what was going on in the other rehearsal rooms.

“None of them really knew how good or bad their competition would be. Everyone doubted themselves a little, and no one wanted to be remembered as the David Hasselhoff of their season.

“You can’t just rely on your fame to get you far in this competition.

“Yes, having an active fan base does help, but at the end of the day even the most passionate fans stop voting if your dancing doesn’t improve. David is a worldwide phenomenon, having starred in some of the biggest TV hits of all time. If he can get voted off the first week, so can anyone.”

Sources recently revealed Alley decided to sign up for Dancing With the Stars because she wanted to do it before it’s “too late”.

“She wasn’t ready last season. Mentally and physically she just couldn’t get her head around doing the show,” an insider said.

“Kirstie just turned 60, so I think she decided to take on her fear before it was too late.“Kirstie is in this to win this.

“Don’t think for one second that she entered the competition to be voted out in the first few weeks. She’s determined to make it to the end even if it means getting her friendsJohn Travolta or Tom Cruise to show her some moves. And I guarantee no one in the history of the competition will have better friends in the audience cheering her on. Oprah, anyone?”

KIRSTIE Alley will only date “butt-ugly men”.

The actress revealed her strange New Year’s resolution on an episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show airing Friday.

When asked about her dating life by Ellen, Alley, 60, admitted she usually goes for “psychos” and “players,” so the host suggested she try going with the opposite of what she’s attracted to.

“I’m thinking ugly men might be the solution,” she responded.

“I’m talking about butt ugly. Because I go for really handsome men and I think butt ugly would be appreciative.”

KIRSTIE Alley has been pursuing younger men!

According to reports, the formerDancing With the Stars contestant texts guys as soon as she manages to get their number!

“She says, ‘Wanna hang out? Wanna have dinner? I’ll pay for it,’ and ‘I can get you a movie role,’ in order for guys to respond to her. She’s a total cougar!” a source divulged.

Recent reports claimed Kirstie has been piling on the pounds following her stint on Dancing.

“No one expected her to keep up with the demanding 2000-calorie-a-day diet or grueling seven-hour dance sessions once the show was over, but Kirstie has returned to her bad old ways,” a source said.

“She has been consoling herself by eating the best food the Big Apple has to offer, she’s put on about 12 pounds since the DWTS finale.”

Good Deed Done By The American Idols

American Idol
American Idol viewers made a similar choice several years ago for Castera, Samuel and Pedro. Their names are not familiar to American Idol enthusiasts. They were never finalists in the televised singing competition. They live far from the spotlight. They don't even own a television, yet alone have electricity to power it. But Americans helped rewrite their future and thousands of preschoolers like them.

It was 2007, and Americans tuned into the first Idol Gives Back television charity special and dug deep into their pockets to give generously. With nearly one million dollars in donations, Save the Children, in partnership with the government of Mozambique and other local NGOs, launched one of the first preschool programs in rural Mozambique, a country in sub-Saharan Africa where HIV and AIDS have frayed the fabric of family life, leaving many young children parentless.

Driving off the main paved highway in Mozambique and down rutted dirt roads, it can take hours to reach any of the 30 villages where our preschool program began in 2008. There, in what feels like the middle of nowhere, you will hear the cackle of kids playing outside on the swings of their playground or see children writing the letter "a" on black slates while sitting on the floor in their classrooms made of reeds and straw.

Four years later, the results of the preschool program are in. And, it turns out all the preschoolers are winners. A recent World Bank study of Save the Children's preschool programs in Mozambique -- the first of its kind in Africa -- shows that preschoolers were 24 percent more likely to enroll in primary school and were significantly better equipped to learn than children not in preschool. How great is that? And, the study also finds that children going to preschool are much more likely to show interest in math and writing, recognize shapes and show respect for other children, than those not in preschool.

And, here's the kicker. Preschool benefited the preschoolers' families, too. The study finds that parents of enrolled children are 26 percent likelier to work, and older siblings are more likely to go to school themselves. And, for as little as about $2.50 a month per child in Mozambique, preschool is not only an affordable investment, it also reaps returns for years to come.

The value of getting early education boost cannot be understated. That's why this week, as part ofthe Global Campaign for Education's Global Action Week, advocates around the globe want to bring attention to early childhood programs and press the U.S. government to maintain funding for these critical basic education programs both in the U.S. and abroad. The stark truth is that for many children globally, early learning programs are still a luxury. Even here in the U.S., children living in poverty in rural areas have few options.

In Mozambique alone, only four percent of its nation's children under age 5 go to preschool. Before preschool came to their villages, children spent their days laboring in the field with their mothers, helping to cart water, pull weeds or chase the baboons away from the crops. Others were left at home alone to care for younger siblings or to entertain themselves, with no learning materials -- no crayons, no books, no toys -- or structured play.

Without a foundation of learning, children step into the classroom for the first time unprepared. It is like asking someone to sing a tune without the notes. They don't know where to start. They don't know how to piece it together. They have no coaches to help them. As a result, they quickly become overwhelmed. Many stop going to school in first or second grade, tragically shutting the door on learning and opportunity early in life. Early education is the track on which life-long learning is built. At preschool, children acquire social, motor and thinking skills, and build their knowledge of letters, words and numbers.

The dream of going to preschool will soon be within reach for many more children in Mozambique and throughout the African continent. The Mozambican government, encouraged by the World Bank findings, will bring early learning to more villages across the nation later this year. And, other African countries are studying the research results and seeing how they can copy the preschool program in their own countries.

The American Idol donation helped fund materials for classrooms, playgrounds and latrines, along with simple school supplies like floor mats, blackboards, storybooks and pencils. This donation allowed Save the Children to train teachers, parents and community members as well. And, the communities also chipped in, providing materials for construction and volunteering their time to build the structures, make toys and teach at the schools.

For this, American Idol fans can take a bow. Thanks to them, African preschoolers will be poised to step out on the stage of school and life, and shine.

Tupac Shakur Appeared For A Short Set At Coachella

Coachella attendees were surprised on Sunday when a hologram of Tupac Shakur appeared for a short set of the deceased rapper’s hits, shocking fans in the latest iteration of hologram technology in entertainment. As Maura Judkis reported:
When Tupac Shakur took the stage at Coachella on Sunday, it was like seeing a ghost. The rapper died of gunshot wounds in 1996, but he was resurrected via hologram to perform with Snoop Dogg for the California music festival. Shakur’s hologram greeted the crowd, “What up, Coachella!” and joined Snoop Dog for “Come With Me,” “Hail Mary” and “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.

As Emi Kolawole wrote, innovation and hip-hop have gone hand in hand since the genre’s beginnings.
It has been an interesting start to the week for hip-hop. It’s not every day that technology brings one of the genre’s most popular artists, Tupac Shakur, back to (virtual) life in front of a packed house and then reportedly sends him on tour. But hip-hop and innovation have gone hand-in-hand from the genre’s very beginning.

At least part of that history has been tackled by rapper and “Law & Order” star Ice-T, who made his directorial debut with the documentary “Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap,” in which he explores hip-hop’s creation and early evolution. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January and is set for a theatrical release in June.

Based on the trailer and reviews of the film following its premier at Sundance, “Something from Nothing,” looks at not only the technological innovations in the genre, including the incorporation of the turntable and the latest in audio editing software, but the very act of creating the rhyme — an inherently innovative undertaking. During an interview with Billboard.com in January, Ice-T mentioned how queries about hip-hop rarely focus on its most basic element, how artists create rhymes.

In light of this, an exploration of hip-hop’s creation may be a good source of inspiration for anyone interested in fostering an innovation-rich environment. At its core, innovation is the creation of “something from nothing” — or at least from elements that no one had ever thought to combine before, whether it be the marriage of a rhyme and a new beat or the repurposing of a record player.

Now, let the record show, I am far from hip-hop’s biggest fan. I’ve found the frequent objectification of women in music videos and promotional materials to be, at best, unappealing and, at worst, blatantly offensive. But that doesn’t mean one shouldn’t take the opportunity, when possible, to look past the “parties and booties and girls,” in the words of Ice-T, and recognize the role the genre has played, and can continue to play, not only as a fertile seedbed for innovation and a partial reflection of American culture, but as an outlet for creativity and, ultimately, healing.

After a successful debut at Coachella there were reports that the Tupac hologram would go on tour. As Jen Chaney reported:

The hologram of deceased rapper Tupac Shakur— conjured to perform alongside Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg during a Sunday night set at Coachella — might be going on tour. The Wall Street Journal reports that reps for both Dre and Snoop Dogg are in the process of planning a tour that would involve the almost-but-not-really reincarnated Tupac, whose digital likeness was generated by Digital Domain Media Group, the same company that youth-ified and aged Brad Pitt for “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.” If this actually succeeds, can we assume that a Nirvana reunion featuring an Obi-Wan version of Kurt Cobainis not far behind?

Nicki Minaj Is A Rare Female MC With Mixtape-circuit Credibility

Underneath the stage before February's Super Bowl halftime show, Nicki Minaj felt an emotion she hadn't experienced in quite some time. She was really, really nervous.

Over the last three years, the young rapper had become one of the most charismatic and commercially successful stars in pop music, with a gum-snapping flow and acerbic guest rhymes that stole the show from vets such as Mariah Carey, Kanye West and Rihanna. Her pop-inclined solo debut, "Pink Friday," hit No. 1 and launched best-selling singles like the elastic "Super Bass." She'd just finished an arena tour opening for Britney Spears to the biggest crowds of her career.

Still, as she stood next to her peer M.I.A. and the show's headliner, Madonna, the stakes felt higher than ever before.

So the MC born Onika Maraj resorted to her time-honored tactic to get over the jitters. She played a character, the stadium-commanding pop star Nicki Minaj. "Leading up to it under the stage riser, I was thinking, 'Oh my God, there are so many people out there,'" Minaj, 29, said. "But once I got out there, 30 seconds into it, I just decided to be myself and have fun with it."

Only four months into 2012, Minaj has already headlined two of the biggest moments in live music, with her Super Bowl gig followed by an outlandish exorcism-themed Grammys set that was the talk of the telecast. Her new album, "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded," is an even more daring document of a young artist holding onto her creativity while navigating major commercial stardom.

"Reloaded" is a labyrinthine psychodrama centered on one of her many alter egos, the gay, 20-something man Roman Zolanski, whom Minaj cheekily claims is a demon that lives inside her and emerges when she's angry. It's the kind of concept-heavy follow-up album that makes record label execs bolt awake at night soaked in a cold sweat.

But if it sticks, "Roman Reloaded" might secure Minaj's career in her best role yet _ as one of the most daring and versatile pop artists working today.
Even her public face as "Nicki Minaj" is a character, one of a slew she's toyed with as a musician. There's Roman; Roman's hysterical British-accented mother, Martha Zolanski; and Harajuku Barbie, an outsized-innocent young girl.

Minaj's early mixtapes caught the ear of her mentor Lil Wayne with her verbal dexterity, while sharing Missy Elliott's knack for bending words into pop art. But her debut full-length surprised and disappointed some hip-hop fans.

Singsongy tracks like "Your Love" and " Moment 4 Life" were perfectly capable singles but felt featherweight and aimed at a different, younger audience. "I felt a lot of pressure to be inspirational and responsible (on that album)," Minaj said. "I like all kinds of music; when I was working at Red Lobster the soundtrack of my life there was Avril Lavigne. Hip-hop fans are my core, and I can never not be hip-hop. But why not showcase all sides of who you are?"

Minaj wanted "Roman Reloaded" to embrace all her personalities. Early leaked tracks like "Roman Holiday," the vampy noir she performed at the Grammys, the spooky and echo-sodden "Beez in the Trap" and the giddy taunt "Stupid Hoe" hark back to her wild-eyed mixtape tracks, but with an ear for sticky, radio-pleasing phrasings.

A roster of guest MCs, including label mates Lil Wayne and Drake and gruff peers Young Jeezy and Rick Ross, co-sign with appearances. It continues the path she forged on "Pink Friday's" track "Roman's Revenge," in which Eminem revisits his Slim Shady alias to trade barbs with Minaj's Roman.

Minaj hopes that playfulness can inspire rappers to loosen up. "Em and I both came from nothing, so we've had to do a lot of escaping," she said.

"Traditionally, hip-hop has had such a judgmental spirit. But Wayne made a rock album, and Kanye named an album '808s & Heartbreak' and sang all over it. I feel artists like us are setting a new tone and making new rules here."

Just as crucially, "Reloaded" highlights other talents that suggest she can work in diverse pop styles. The trancey "Starships," produced by Lady Gaga's longtime collaborator RedOne, is summertime dance-party spritz, while her duet with the embattled Chris Brown, "Right by My Side," is tender without being saccharine.

"She grew up as a street rapper, but when she wanted to sing more, we encouraged it," said Mack Maine, the president of Minaj's label, Young Money, an imprint of Cash Money/ Universal co-founded by Lil Wayne. "She developed alter egos and became an icon for it. There were very few times where we've had to let her touch the stove herself to find out that it's too hot. But while some artists can get lazy, she's never like, 'I'm good, thanks.' "

But as Minaj's characters and her own pop persona develop, there's one role she still can't shake: as a rare female MC with mixtape-circuit credibility and a mainstream pop career.

Minaj loves to toy with images of femininity. While her underground lyrics can be plenty racy, her delivery often undermines the sexiness with violent glee or a cuteness so exaggerated it's threatening. In her videos, she's not afraid of skimpy outfits, but her outsized facial features and deadpan poses subvert them.
"My thing was never to just be sexy," Minaj said. "If I had a choice, I'd choose kooky and sarcastic over that. I feel like that's more real for me than someone being one-dimensional and just wearing a short skirt."

Pop music, for all its commercial problems of late, has no trouble generating hit singles and cultural conversation starters. Where it's struggling is in creating long-term stars with a wide range of skills. Finding one's sound isn't as important as finding an authentic charisma — vocal, visual, in pop media — that can be deployed as needed in the fast-shifting currents of music.

If Minaj can maintain control of her character creations, the potential for her third act is limitless.

"During the day, everyone is four or five different people. I'm a different person when I'm with my friends than when I'm at a business meeting," she said. "I just give them all names."

Whitney Houston Death Report Details Drug Signs

The hotel room where Whitney Houston died bore the hallmarks of a traveler — suitcases and room-service food and drinks. But it also contained something tragically familiar for the singer: signs of cocaine and its paraphernalia.

The drug was found throughout Houston's body, according to an autopsy report released Wednesday that gave the most detailed account yet of how the Grammy-winning singer died just hours before she was to appear at a pre-Grammy Awards party. By the time an assistant found her face down in a bathtub on the afternoon of Feb. 11, Houston had likely been dead for at least an hour. The water was so hot it scalded part of her body.

Nearby, on the bathroom counter, investigators found a small spoon described by investigators as having a "crystal like substance" in it and in a drawer they discovered a white powdery substance. The dozen prescription drug bottles found in Houston's suite of the Beverly Hilton Hotel led investigators to initially suspect she died of an overdose, but after further examination and toxicology results they concluded she drowned accidentally. Heart disease, which caused a 60 percent blockage in one of her arteries, and cocaine use were listed as contributing factors.

Toxicology results also showed Houston had marijuana, Xanax, the muscle relaxant Flexeril, and the allergy medication Benadryl in her system, but none are considered factors in her death.

The grim accounting of the room where Houston died and what investigators found provide a sad footnote to the singer's life, showing the impact drugs took on her. An investigator noted a hole in the singer's nose, listed under "history of substance abuse."

Houston, 48, had been preparing for the annual party of her mentor, Clive Davis, who helped launch her career two decades earlier. She had finished work on her return to acting by starring in a remake of the film "Sparkle," which would also feature her rendition of the gospel classic "His Eye Is on the Sparrow."

The singer had a sore throat and her assistant suggested she take a bath to get ready for the party. The assistant left to pick up some items at a department store and by the time she returned, Houston was submerged in the tub, which was overflowing and had soaked the carpet in another room.

Efforts were made to revive the Houston, including using a defibrillator, according to the report.

Coroner's officials declined to discuss details in the report, including whether toxicology results showing the level of cocaine in Houston's body could be used to determine how recently she took the drug. The office has said there were signs of recent and chronic use by the singer.

Beverly Hills police have been awaiting the report before closing the report, although the agency has said there are no signs of foul play in Houston's death.

The singer had battled addiction for years, but friends and family have said she appeared committed to making a comeback in the months before her death.

"The biggest devil is me. I'm either my best friend or my worst enemy," Houston told ABC's Diane Sawyer in an infamous 2002 television interview with then-husband Bobby Brown by her side.

Brown has faced his own troubles since his ex-wife's death. He was arrested and charged last month with driving under the influence of alcohol in Los Angeles and faces a court date later this month.

The details of Houston's death have not yet impacted plans to release "Sparkle" later this year. A trailer released Monday featured Houston prominently in her role as the matriarch of a family of girls who form a singing group and struggle with fame and addiction.

Kate Winslet Got The Idea For Her Golden Hat Foundation

Who could say no to Kate Winslet? Apparently, not a single soul. She's candid, funny, and drops the F-bomb in that charming way that only the British can. And she's got George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks, Justin Timberlake, Angelina Jolie, Anna Wintour, Sting and, of course, her Titanic co-star and close friend Leonardo DiCaprio among other A-listers rounded up for a special project to help raise awareness for autism.

"Even I can't believe it," says Winslet of the overwhelming willingness of stars wanting to be involved with The Golden Hat: Talking Back to Autism (Simon & Schuster, $29.95), out today. "The truth is, I don't really know these people. They're not my friends. I am just like everyone else … I don't really know that many famous people, that's not my life. I'm a mum, I go to work, and then I'm a mum. It really was a case of bribing people for phone numbers."

The premise was simple: take a picture of yourself wearing a "golden" hat provided by Winslet — a favorite fedora plucked from the actress' own closet — and answer the question, "if you could only say one thing, what would that be?" The resulting 100 self-portraits and their words are featured in the book. Proceeds go to the Golden Hat Foundation, founded in 2010 by Winslet and Margret Ericsdottir to improve the lives of people with autism.

Why autism? Winslet is a mother to 11-year-old Mia and 8-year-old Joe — neither of whom has the developmental disorder. But in 2009, she provided the English-language narration for the Icelandic documentary, A Mother's Courage: Talking Back to Autism (originally called The Sunshine Boy),produced by Ericsdottir about her son, Keli Thorsteinsson, now 14 . He lives with a severe form of non-verbal autism and is unable to speak.

Winslet and Ericsdottir became "very close, very quickly," says Winslet, 36. Upon returning home after working on the narration, "My daughter, who watched the documentary with me, turned to me and said, 'Could you imagine if I couldn't tell you I loved you?'"

The thought, says Winslet, was mind-blowing. "I had this feeling of, 'I need to do something else.' It wasn't just a case of 'what can I do to help the cause?' It was something much more profound than that." The idea for the book hit Winslet "while I was brushing my teeth. I'm like everybody else, in a way, you think of an idea like that, you know, we all have to start somewhere."

The celebrity photos, taken in wide-ranging locales including bathrooms, inside dressing rooms and on movie sets, all feature the exact same hat, which Winslet proudly clutches in her lap. "I've personally taken it everywhere (for the book)," she says. "If I couldn't, I'd try to find someone who could."

Winslet says her favorite photo in the book comes from Michael Phelps. "Phelps had just won his eight gold medals, and Mia and Joe are big swimmers and so they had seen him win every single one. I had an opportunity to go to a training session that he was at in Baltimore, so I drove the kids and they met Michael Phelps and swam in the pool."

The men, says Winslet, took much longer deciding on a photo than the women. "Ben Stiller was (with the hat) in the men's room of a cafe downtown, and actually, I'm sure he wouldn't mind me telling this story, but he was in there for like 20 minutes. I was like, 'Dude, what are you doing?' "

Stiller was no doubt searching for the perfect snapshot all in the name of a good cause. Winslet, who admits at first she knew "shamefully little" about autism, rattles off one statistic after another. "I'm not a doctor or a scientist, and I don't have a cure, and I'm not trying to find a cure," says Winslet, who speaks passionately on the subject. "But I'm certainly trying to get people to open up their mind to what this condition actually means to these individuals, and to also find a way of breaking down those barriers that do surround these individuals which more and more push them into a world of entrapment."

As for Keli, "he does know that I'm famous … he knew that I was the girl for Titanic, even though he'd never seen the film," says Winslet, who spent Thanksgiving 2010 with her children, Keli and his mother in Austin. "It is like family. He's so grateful, and expresses that. He still can't speak, and may never develop functional speech."

Winslet realizes there's much at stake. "Here's the other thing: None of this may work. And that's a huge risk that you take. But there's no point in life sitting around and saying, 'well, maybe.' I don't want to live my life on any kind of (expletive) maybe."

But what's in it for Winslet? "Nobody's asked me that," she says, pausing for the first time during her chat. "I suppose it gives me another choice in life. Another choice to be able to try and make some changes for people that really need some changes to be made. One more choice, one more privilege."

With that life of privilege comes many questions, and when one is raised inquiring into the actress' romantic prospects, she plays coy. "I tell you something, now, more than ever, there is literally no turning back on the personal privacy thing," says Winslet, who announced her split from husband Sam Mendes in 2010. "The gate has fully come down, and I just won't talk about my private life. … It's no secret I have gone through a substantial amount in my private life, and I'm just done with having that debated upon, and discussed and ultimately judged because that is what people do, without meaning it. I'm sure I do the same thing. I'm not up for discussion anymore when it comes to that stuff."

On a professional level, Winslet begins filming a drama, Labor Day, with Josh Brolin and director Jason Reitman this summer, but won't go into much detail. "I have such a tempting fate about talking about it before I play the character … just a little quirky (expletive) kind of thing."

One thing she will talk about is Titanic's return to the big screen on April 4, when it will make its 3-D debut. "I do feel very excited about it, because I can tell that a whole new generation is going to get to experience the film," says Winslet. "Mia and Joe still have not seen it. So it is very exciting that I can actually sit with them — together — and we can all watch it together in a movie theater, and that is going to be quite amazing, actually."

Seeing herself in 3-D form was something else, says Winslet. "I was literally like, ''Oh my God, make it stop! Is that me? Oh my God, that's me.' "

"Once" With Steve Kazee And Cristin Milioti At Jacobs Theater

Sometimes how cool you look depends on where you’re standing. When I first saw the musical “Once” at the New York Theater Workshop last December, it registered as a little too twee, too conventionally sentimental, for the East Village. Yet on Broadway — at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theater to be exact, where “Once” opened on Sunday night — what is essentially the same production feels as vital and surprising as the early spring that has crept up on Manhattan.

It’s not just that what seems hokey downtown can read quirky in Midtown, where overpriced-ticket buyers tend to prefer familiarity to novelty. True, “Once” — adapted from a wistful low-budget Irish movie about two young songwriters who seem destined to make sweet music together — is exotically modest by the standards of loud, expensively dressed Broadway. But in its new incarnation this musical reveals itself to be a show that was always meant (and probably lusting) for a brighter limelight and a bigger stage. You have to watch out for those shy ones.

In some ways “Once,” which is directed by John Tiffany, has followed a typical route for Broadway musicals, in that it was inspired by a film; and in translating that film to the stage it made the implicit explicit, and the understated overstated. (See “Sister Act” or “Priscilla Queen of the Desert” for corroborating evidence.) I had made the mistake of watching the enchantingly low-key 2006 movie only hours before I first saw the musical downtown. And while there was much I admired in the stage version then, its scaled-up adorability factor got on my nerves.

What annoyed me then — which was mostly inherent in the show’s book, written by the generally terrific playwright Enda Walsh — hasn’t been erased from “Once.” It still has too many lines like “You cannot walk through your life leaving unfinished love behind you.”

But the greater distance between stage and audience that comes with a move to a Broadway house softens the edges of its exaggeration. And what was always wonderful about “Once,” its songs and its staging, has been magnified. In the meantime its appealing stars, Steve Kazee and Cristin Milioti, have only grown in presence and dimensionality. Who would have thought that this soft-spoken little musical would have found itself by raising its voice?

Mr. Kazee and Ms. Milioti play characters named Guy and Girl (yeah, I know, but bear with me — and them), parts created on screen by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, who also wrote the songs (which are used here too). Guy, who is Irish, and Girl, who is Czech, meet in Dublin and discover they share a knack for creating folk-rock tunes that ripple with melancholy and rue.

They’re different too, in complementary ways. Guy’s a brooding quitter; Girl’s a never-say-die doer. And together — with the help of their standard-issue wacky friends — they just might make it after all. Professionally I mean. Romantically they’re both otherwise engaged. Or are they?

You’ve heard it all before, right? Except you haven’t, quite. Because “Once” uses song and dance in a way I’ve never experienced in an American musical (even if its sound will be familiar to alternative radio listeners): to convey a beautiful shimmer of might-have-been regret. Of course the anguish produced by the man or woman that got away has been a staple of musicals and opera for centuries. Heck, it accounts for at least 50 percent of chart-topping pop hits. (Hello, Adele.)

What lends a special, tickling poignancy to Mr. Hansard and Ms. Irglova’s songs is their acceptance of loneliness as an existential given. These are not big ballads that complain angrily about how we could have had it all, you and I. An air of romantic resignation, streaked in minor-key undercurrents, tempers the core heartache of numbers like “Leave,” “When Your Mind’s Made Up” and (the Oscar winner for best song from the movie) “Falling Slowly.” (Martin Lowe is the excellent music supervisor and orchestrator.)
And because every member of the ensemble here is a musician, functioning as both the show’s band and its cast of characters, this savory-sweet sadness feels both organic and universal. (Bob Crowley’s single set, given multifarious life by Natasha Katz’s expert lighting, suggests the kind of pub where people come to lose themselves in song as well as drink, and the audience is invited to join in an improvised preshow hootenanny on the stage.)

This is not music that lends itself to the usual chorus-line kicks and shimmies. Instead, Steven Hoggett (who collaborated with Mr. Tiffany on the National Theater of Scotland’s marvelous men-at-war play “Black Watch”) sets the songs to stylized physical movements that are as distinctive and evocative as any Broadway choreography since Bill T. Jones’s work on “Spring Awakening.”

Whitney Houston's Death Have Wrapped Up

Investigators of singer Whitney Houston's death have wrapped up the logistical part of their inquiry by having contacted all physicians and pharmacies with ties to Houston, and nothing so far appears criminal, sources close to the investigation said Friday.

Authorities, however, said they're still reviewing additional medical information that will be used in their final ruling on her cause of death, and Houston's toxicology report should be complete "on or around March 23rd," the sources told CNN.

Officials are still trying to speak with Houston's only child, Bobbi Kristina Brown, 18, before closing the case, the sources said.

Investigators have contacted her relatives, but it's unclear whether the daughter will agree to be interviewed, sources said.

The daughter was interviewed briefly by Beverly Hills police the day her mother died, but she was too distraught to offer helpful information, the sources said. She was taken twice to a Los Angeles hospital briefly after her mother's death, a source close to the family said last month.

Houston, 48, died February 11 in her room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, the day before the music industry gathered for the annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.

Last month, officials with the Los Angeles County coroner's office said her body had no visible signs of trauma and foul play wasn't suspected. Her cause of death was listed last month as "deferred," officials said.

More official details on the investigation haven't been released because the Beverly Hills Police Department was granted a "security hold" on the case, the coroner's office said. Common in high-profile cases, the hold restricts the release of information in a case.

Authorities have said that police and fire officials were called to Houston's room at the Beverly Hilton after her unconscious body was found in the bathtub, just hours before she was to attend a pre-Grammy party at the hotel.

Houston won six Grammys and sold 170 million albums, singles and videos over her career.

A Los Angeles County coroner official last month downplayed the suspicion that drugs had played a major role in her death.

Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said that "not many prescription bottles" were found in the singer's hotel room after her death. The amount of medications recovered by investigators was less than usually present in deaths attributed to overdoses, Winter said.

"I know there are reports that she maybe was drowned or did she overdose, but we won't make a final determination until all the tests are in," he said last month.
In recent years, the singer's accomplishments were overtaken by her struggles with drug addiction.

Ethan Zohn Is Feeling Like A New Man

Forget feeling like a million bucks. Ethan Zohn is feeling like a new man.
The "Survivor: Africa" champ underwent a stem-cell transplant Wednesday to treat a recurrence of his Hodgkin's lymphoma cancer--and he has his brother to thank for the immuno-boost.

Outwit, outlast, outplay has never quite meant so much.
More from E: Ethan Zohn and Jenna Morasca dye their hair pink to raise awareness for World Cancer Day

"Today I leap into a healthy new body. Today is the start of the rest of my life. Thank You to my bro Lee &all who have supported me. Love!" the reality star tweeted presumably before undergoing the transfusion.

And of course, Jenna Morasca, Zohn's girlfriend and winner of "Survivor: The Amazon," was right there with him the whole time.

"Thanks @JennaMorasca for being by my side. Love you," he added in a follow up.
Just before the transplant, Morasca wrote on Twitter: "Today @EthanZohn gets new stem cells &new cancer free life FOREVER! And we get our lives back. Send positive healing vibes #getbetterethan"

More from E: 'Survivor' Ethan Zohn's cancer returns
During the operation, Zohn's gal-pal kept her nerves calm and distracted herself by drawing a little self-portrait which she subsequently posted as a twitpic.
After it was over, Morasca was all smiles.

"Very happy girl right now," she tweeted.
Getting a new lease on life hasn't been easy for the former Boran tribesman, though change is (see he and Morasca's recent cut and dye job in honor of World Cancer Day).

In May 2009, Zohn first learned he had a rare form of the disease called CD20-positive Hodgkin's lymphoma, after doctors found a swollen lymph node and a mass on the left side of his chest. After undergoing intensive rounds of chemotherapy, the 38-year-old professional soccer player's cancer appeared to be in remission until Nov. 2011 when new cancer cells were detected, localized this time in his lung.

More from E: Take that, cancer! Ethan Zohn completes New York City marathon
In an interview with People, Morasca said that despite the setback, her beau has every intention of whipping this latest challenge, just as the Survivor stud did when he successfully ran last November's New York City marathon.
"Ethan asked the doctor what was the record time for getting out of here, so he wants to beat that," she told the magazine. "His doctor said there was no prize, and Ethan said, 'Yes, there is. You're going to tell the other patients that I made it out in three weeks.' "

She added that Zohn also received the transplant at the same ward where he was first diagnosed with Hodgkin's, something that's been tough for the pair.

Beyonce In First Public Appearance After Postpartum

New mega-star mommy Beyonce has made her first public appearance since giving birth to daughter Blue Ivy Carter last month, and we’ve got to say — she’s looking great!

No one expects a new mom to be back to her usual self (emotionally or physically) just a month after baby’s arrival, but Beyonce looked svelte with her post-baby bump shape when she stepped out on Monday night to celebrate Jay-Z’s upcoming United Way benefit performances at Carnegie Hall.

Blue Ivy Carter's mama stepped out on the town twice this week to support hubby Jay-Z's back-to-back performances at Carnegie Hall and she looked stunning both times. Not just okay, not pretty good for someone who just had a baby -- she looked amazing.

The first night, Beyoncé rocked a figure-hugging Alice by Temperley red dress that showed off her newly plumped "girls" and the second time she donned a dark, sequined, figure-flattering creation from Monique Lhuillier.

Sure, Spanx likely helped make Beyoncé's first post-baby pics a smash, but that alone does not account for that hour-glass figure. The first question everyone asked was: "How did she lose the weight?" Baby Blue is only a month old, after all. Those who cling to ridiculous rumors will say Beyoncé just took out the "pillow." Those with sense may sincerely wonder how a woman could look so together so soon after giving birth. Is it even possible to change one's body that drastically in such a short amount of time in a healthy way? The honest answer to that is... it depends.

"A lot of postpartum weight loss has to do with genes or the individual woman. Some women will look like they were never pregnant shortly after delivery, while others will struggle with weight loss," said theGrio.com's health editor Dr. Tyeese Gaines. "A fair amount of women actually never lose all of the weight and they bring that weight into their next pregnancy, with more weight gain on top of it."

For those who have to put in a bit more work to shed the baby weight, there are restrictions, especially for women who have had c-sections. "A cesarean (or c-section) is a major abdominal surgery. The woman's muscles and uterus have stitches holding them closed where the baby came out. Until that fully heals, that new mom doesn't want to be lifting anything much heavier than the baby or pushing herself too hard," Dr. Ty explained.

So even if you have all the motivation in the world to get back to your pre-baby shape, you might have to wait several weeks or even longer until your obstetrician gives you the go ahead for exercise. That goes for new moms who have had vaginal births as well.

Trying to emulate someone else's weight loss can have dire consequences physically and psychologically. Engaging in vigorous exercise before those stretched abdominal muscles have properly healed can have painful consequences. Additionally, anticipating a dramatic weight loss will likely lead to disappointment.
"The biggest blow postpartum when it comes to weight tends to be body image. No new mom wants to be mistaken for pregnant weeks after having a baby," Dr. Ty said. "Adding extra pressure to get back to her pre-pregnancy body in say, eight weeks, is only a setup to disappoint someone who is already hormonal and prone to postpartum blues.

"That being said, watching television or celebrity icons meet those typically unattainable goals makes it even harder," noted Dr. Ty.

The bottom line is that it's not good to base your personal body image and expectations (especially during and after pregnancy) on another person, whether it's Beyoncé or the woman down the street. That is, however, easier said than done. No one is completely immune to societal pressures and cultural beauty standards. Black women in particular have never had an easy road when it comes to body image. When big lips, ample behinds and tanned skinned fall out of favor in the mainstream media (and they will), we black women will still have those features and will simply have to find a way to keep appreciating our beauty.
In the meantime, find ways to make your own life as healthy and joyful as possible. Happy, smart people don't have the time or interest in spreading insensitive rumors about celebrities.

Most women do not (and could not) have Beyoncé's pre-pregnancy body, so it's not a stretch to assume that her post-baby figure is equally unattainable to the masses. Beyoncé comes from a different gene pool and tax bracket than most of us anyway -- her resources are a tad different. Let's just accept that and move on.

Whitney Houston Funeral To Be Held At Childhood Church

Singer Whitney Houston will be laid to rest on 18 February in the New Jersey church where she sang as a child.

According to the owner of the Whigham Funeral Home in Newark, the funeral will be held at 12:00 EST (17:00 GMT) at the city's New Hope Baptist Church.

The 48-year-old was found underwater and unconscious on Saturday in a bath at a hotel in Beverly Hills.
Her body was flown to New Jersey's Teterboro airport on Monday and driven to the funeral home in a gold hearse.

The home's owner, Carolyn Whigham, said the funeral service would be by invitation only, adding it would be a "private time" for the Houston family.

"They have shared her for 30 some years with the city, with the state, with the world," she told reporters. "This is their time now for their farewell."

Toxicology tests are under way, following an autopsy on Sunday. The authorities say it may be up to eight weeks before they can confirm the cause of death.

No criminal probe is under way, police said, but the Los Angeles coroner said her room did contain some prescription drugs.

Prescription medicine
In a news conference on Monday, Beverly Hills police spokesman Lt Mark Rosen said fire department officials were told the singer was found unresponsive on Saturday morning.

"Ms Houston was pulled from the tub by members of her staff and hotel security was promptly notified," he said.

Tributes have been left outside Houston's childhood church in Newark "First aid and CPR measures were performed in an attempt to revive her," he said, adding that after unsuccessful attempts, Houston was pronounced dead at 15:55 local time (23:55 GMT).

The police spokesman played down reports that prescription drugs might have been involved in her death.
"Our intent at Beverly Hills Police Department is not to fuel the speculation or rumours that are circulating right now," Lt Rosen said. "We can't comment on where those rumours have come from."

However, the Los Angeles coroner's office then said there were bottles of prescription medicine in the room.
"There weren't a lot of prescription bottles," said Ed Winter, the coroner's assistant chief. "You probably have just as many prescription bottles in your medicine cabinet."

Houston's body arrived at Whigham Funeral Home in a gold hearse Born in Newark, Whitney Houston began her singing career as a child at the New Hope Baptist Church. Her cousin, singer Dionne Warwick, also sang in its choir.

On Monday, mourners left tributes, including flowers, balloons and candles, alongside the church's fence.
"She was an inspiration to everybody,'' said Gregory Hanks, a 26-year-old actor who grew up in the area.
The White House said President Barack Obama offered his condolences.

Press secretary Jay Carney said: "I know that his thoughts and prayers are with her family, especially her daughter.

"It's a tragedy to lose somebody so talented at such a young age."
Houston was one of the world's best-selling artists and sold 170 million records worldwide.
But her later career was overshadowed by drug use and a turbulent marriage to singer Bobby Brown.

Houston was found in her hotel room just hours before she was supposed to appear at a gala before the Grammy Awards.

The Former Kate Middleton Turns 30 On Monday - But Royal Fans Expecting A Lavish Birthday

The former Kate Middleton turns 30 on Monday - but royal fans expecting a lavish birthday bash to mark the milestone will be disappointed.
Palace officials say the Duchess of Cambridge's birthday celebration will be a "low-key and private" affair, appearing to quash press reports that she will see off her 20s with a fun '80s themed party, complete with karaoke, in a throwback to her more carefree bachelorette days.
The choice of a muted event seems appropriate: After all, the duchess is not just starting the fourth decade of her life - she is also embarking on her career as a future queen, charged with renovating a monarchy that has become somewhat creaky with age.
"She's done very well, playing a very good supporting role to Prince William and complementing him as part of a team," commentator Robert Jobson said of her first few months as a royal.
"We've not seen much of her, but when she's in public she has performed with aplomb," added Jobson, who is the author of "William and Kate: The Love Story."
The past year has seen momentous changes for Kate, with a fairytale wedding to Prince William, travels around the world and glamorous appearances that marked her transition from commoner to the world's most talked-about princess and style icon. She has won rave reviews for her sparkle, her elegant sense of style, and her common touch with the public. The media, yearning for a young and beautiful royal, documented - and largely admired - her every move.
On Sunday, they were out in force with the duchess again the center of attention as she and William took to the red carpet for the premiere of Steven Spielberg's movie "War Horse" in central London.
But now that the excitement around her grand wedding has subsided, she is expected to quietly settle down into her royal duties - and for much of this year, that means helping Queen Elizabeth II celebrate her Diamond Jubilee, without upstaging the monarch in her moment of glory, and also playing a supporting role at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Until recently, palace officials have been quiet about what exactly her role will be, keen to protect her transition into a fully fledged royal from the glare of the media limelight. The newlyweds, who live in a remote corner of north Wales, were said to favor a "quieter life" after the massive global media coverage of their April wedding. Outside of a tour of Canada and California in the summer, the duchess has only taken a handful of official engagements.
The former Middleton ventured out on her first solo engagement in October - a private charity dinner for about 30 guests - but is yet to make a public speech on her own.
That is set to change. This week, royal officials finally gave the first insight into her new role when they announced which charities she's supporting, including the Scouts and a group that helps drug addicts. More organizations will follow later, officials said.
The royal family considers patronage of charities an important aspect of their social role, and frequently makes visits and attends events to boost the charities' profiles. William is involved in many diverse nonprofits, while his mother, the late Princess Diana, was well known for her active support for numerous charities including organizations that helped AIDS patients.
Even after her separation from Prince Charles, Diana actively campaigned for a ban on land mines, and visited Angola to champion that cause.
The former Middleton is expected to take on a similar role, eventually designating more charities she wants to be involved with as a way for her to carve out her own niche, based on her own priorities and concerns.
She has already taken on an unofficial role as a champion of the British fashion industry, wearing the creations of British designers at home and abroad, showcasing their work in the best possible light.
On top of such duties, the duchess also has a busy year ahead with the queen's jubilee, a major celebration of the monarch's 60 years on the throne that will take see numerous celebrations throughout Britain and the Commonwealth, peaking in a major celebration in London in early June.

Show Luo Crowned 'King Of Bonuses'

With Chinese New Year around the corner, singers, who have other business ventures, are starting to hand out year-end bonuses to their employees.
Taiwanese singer Show Luo, who earned NT$550million (S$23.65million) last year, splurged generously on his employees.
Prior to the New Year, the singer booked three bed-and-breakfast inns in Yilan County, which cost at least NT$1 million (S$43,000). He intends to take 120 staff members, from seven of his fashion outlets, for a two-day-one-night company trip.
The annual staff bonus was also said to range from two to five months, which is approximately NT$10 million (S$430,000) in total.
Show also splurged on employees from his management agency, Universes Entertainment, his record label Gold Typhoon and crew working on his entertainment programme 100% Entertainment. He handed out year-end red packets worth more than NT$4 million (S$172,000).
During Chinese New Year, the singer will also be taking the staff from the management agency he belongs, on a five-day tour to Bali. The trip is estimated to cost NT$1 million (S$43,000).
Coming in second, is singer Jay Chou, who made NT$660 million (S$28.5 million) last year. He reportedly handed out a two-month bonus -- which cost him a total of NT$5 million (S$215,000) -- to his colleagues from record label JVR Music, employees from his four restaurant outlets and fashion outlet.
JVR Music also gave out up to NT$3 million (S$129,000) in year-end red packets. Employees will also be treated to a trip to Italy after the Chinese New Year which will cost the singer NT$2 million ($86,000).
This means Jay will spend an estimated of NT$10 million (S$430,000) before Chinese New Year.
Local singer JJ Lin was equally generous when it came to bonuses, although he does not have as many fashion outlets as Jay or Show.
He gave out year-end bonuses worth a total of NT$3 million (S$129,000) to his staff, and contributed NT$2 million (S$86,000) of red packets at the annual dinners of his fashion outlets and record label Warner Music.

Stephen Colbert Isn't Running For President - At Least Not Yet

Stephen Colbert isn't running for president - at least not yet.
During Thursday night's episode of "The Colbert Report," Colbert legally transferred his super political action committee to his friend and Comedy Central cohort Jon Stewart. Dropping by from "The Daily Show," Stewart happily signed the documents and accepted the post, which was ceremonially observed by the two holding hands and bodily transferring the PAC powers.
The move potentially paves the way for Colbert to enter the Republican presidential primary in South Carolina, his home state. Campaigning politicians are prohibited from simultaneously running super PACs.
But Colbert only hinted at such a decision, which he had grandly hyped ahead of Thursday's show. In flirting candidate style, he announced that he is forming "an exploratory committee to lay the groundwork for my possible candidacy for the president of the United States of South Carolina."
Patriotically colored balloons were released in the studio while a graphic screamed "I'm Doing It!"
Stewart and Colbert hashed out the peculiar legalities of their arrangement. With Colbert's lawyer (and former chairman of the Federal Election Commission) Trevor Potter on hand, they spelled out that while Colbert was legally forbidden from participating in strategy and advertising with the super PAC, he could still talk about his plans on his TV show and even volunteer for the super PAC.
Stewart declared Colbert vice president of youth outreach for the super PAC, which was renamed The Definitely Not Coordinated with Stephen Colbert Super PAC. Along with Potter, the three joined hands like a sports team and - with thick irony - cheered in unison: "Non-coordination!"
In 2007, Colbert attempted to enter the South Carolina primary but was stymied by filing fees. The super PAC could very well eliminate any such financial concerns. Colbert hasn't publically revealed the amount raised from viewer contributions by the PAC, but on Thursday he repeatedly hinted that it was a shockingly large amount.
Colbert has otherwise been very transparent about the PAC's workings, using it to parody the current system's contradictions and potential conflicts of interest. Political action committees stem from a 2010 Supreme Court decision that changed the rules of corporate political donations.

Cosmopolitan Magazine From Stores Gets Over 10,000 Signatures

If one woman has her way, you won’t be seeing headlines like “75 Sex Moves” and “Foreplay Men Crave” in the grocery store checkout line anymore.
Cosmopolitan magazine released its February issue this week featuring 17-year-old Dakota Fanning as the cover girl, surrounded by article captions such as “His Best Sex Ever,” “Too Naughty To Stay Here: But You Have to Try This Sex Trick.”
The cover was the perfect example of what for model Nicole Weider wants banned from grocery stores and newsstands.
“As a former reader of the magazine, I happened to pick up an issue and was reading it and was completely shocked at how pornographic and explicit the content had become. I immediately thought of my young teenage brothers and it horrified me to think that they and their friends could be reading this material, and the damage it would do to them if they did,” Weider told FOX411’s Pop Tarts column. “So I decided to do something about it.”
So, in August 2011, Weider started a Change.org petition to have the magazine sold in a non-transparent wrapper.
Weider wants to make sure nobody under the age of 18 sees the cover of Cosmopolitan magazine on newsstands or at their grocery stores, and that no one under 18 can buy the top-selling title.
“I have contacted the Chairman of the FTC, John Leibowitz and received a letter from his office stating they will look into the issue and start an investigation only when they feel it’s a ‘threat’ to society,” she said. “This means they need more complaints — that is, signers of this petition.”
Weider thinks its particularly troubling when the magazine occasionally uses tween/teen-orientated stars like Fanning and Hayden Panettiere (and reportedly Selena Gomez in an upcoming issue), to cater to a very adult audience. To date, the petition has received almost 11,000 signatures and Weider says that she has also received hundreds of supportive comments and emails through her website www.projectinspired.com from girls as young as 11.
“They write me letters detailing how they’ve tried the sexual tips written about in Cosmo, only to get their hearts broken, or worse — getting pregnant or catching an STD,” she said. “The obvious damage it could be doing is the girls getting STD’s at a young age, pregnancy and bullying. But let’s not forget other behaviors Cosmo displays in a glamorous package to young girls, such as sexting nude pictures of yourself (November 2011) and suggesting that it is ‘normal’ if your boyfriend cheats on you (December 2011).”

Beyonce Gives Birth To A Baby Girl

Through a rap verse, Jay-Z has confirmed the birth of "the most beautiful girl in the world" - his newborn daughter.
The song "Glory" made its debut on his social website Life and Times on Monday - two days after he and Beyonce reportedly gave birth to a daughter, Blue Ivy.
Reps for the superstars repeatedly declined requests for comment from The Associated Press about whether the birth had occurred, as first reported by E! News over the weekend. But Jay-Z's sweet song gives fans the details, and more: "You're my child of a child from Destiny's Child."
In the song, Jay-Z talks about where the child was conceived (in Paris) and even reveals that Beyonce had a miscarriage at one point.
"Last time the miscarriage was so tragic/We was afraid you'd disappear/But nah baby you magic."
The song's refrain is: "The most amazing feeling I feel/Words can't describe what I'm feeling for real/ Maybe I paint the sky blue/My greatest creation was you. You. Glory."
The sound of a baby's cries - perhaps Blue's - ends the song. The song says it features "B.I.C." - which would be the initials of Blue Ivy Carter.
It's the first child for the power couple, who wed in 2008 in a private ceremony after a years-long courtship. Beyonce announced her pregnancy to the world last August at the MTV Video Music Awards with a simple rub of her swollen belly.
Celebs close to the couple have tweeted congrats. Beyonce's sister, Solange Knowles, tweeted Sunday morning: "The most beautiful girl in the world," while Beyonce's close friend Gwyneth Paltrow also tweeted: "Welcome to the world Blue! We love you already."
The couple reportedly gave birth at Lenox Hill Hospital on New York's Upper East Side on Saturday. While there were reports that the couple paid $1.4 million to rent a floor of the hospital for the birth, hospital spokeswoman Barbara Osborne said Monday that "no patient has the ability to reserve an entire floor of the hospital."
While she refused to confirm or deny that Beyonce had given birth there, she said that like other hospitals, suites are available and can be reserved.
One new mother, Rozz Nash-Coulon, said her twins, born Dec. 28, were in the neonatal unit, and starting Friday, intense security measures were implemented and it was a struggle to see her own children as security guards directed hallway traffic. She said a nurse told them Jay-Z and Beyonce were staying at the hospital.
"Once they checked in there was high security everywhere. It looked like the president was on our floor. The hospital's security cameras were taped over. Internal windows from the hallways into the ward were blacked out," said Nash-Coulon, 38.

Cecilia Cheung's Fierce Comeback

SHE'S made the news for being embroiled in a sex scandal, and for a high- profile divorce.
But Hong Kong's Cecilia Cheung is now telling the world, through her new role as a woman who leads others into battle, that she's fierce and powerful.
Subtext: Do not mess with her.
Cheung, 31, who had photos of her in the nude leaked on the Internet in 2008 (yes, in the Edison Chen scandal), split from husband Nicholas Tse earlier this year.
Her new film, Legendary Amazons - a period movie produced by Jackie Chan under his production company, Jackie & JJ Productions, and directed by Frankie Chan - is being heralded as her comeback movie.
The movie, which opens in Singapore on Thursday, sees Cheung in her biggest role since the epic fantasy film, The Promise (2005).
While the actress starred in Chinese New Year film All's Well Ends Well, which was released in February this year, she had to jostle for space with the ensemble cast, which included Carina Lau and Lynn Hung.
Her recent comedy, Treasure Hunt - in which her elder son with Tse, Lucas, four, had a small role - was critically panned when it was released in August.
However, Legendary has the makings of a blockbuster.
Based on a famous Chinese tale set in the Song dynasty, it is a remake of the Shaw Brothers' 1972 classic, The 14 Amazons. It also cost a staggering US$16 million (S$20.5 million) to make.
The 108-minute action thriller focuses on the heroic efforts of the widows and daughters of the Yang family, who fight off invaders after all their male kin are massacred. Talk about girl power.
It stars Richie Ren as General Yang Zongbao, who is (spoiler alert!) killed, leaving his widow, Mu Guiying (Cheung), to lead other women in the family to rise up against their enemies.
At a press conference in Shanghai, Cheung said that she hopes she was able to portray the spirit of female strength accurately, "so that when my son sees it, he knows even women have a brave side", she said.
She was reportedly paid NT$30 million (S$1.28 million), and had signed on on one condition - that she not suffer any pelvic injuries during filming, as she wished to have a third child, according to the production company.
Others praised Cheung for holding her own during the fierce, and violent, battle scenes. One thing's for sure, this movie's one to watch.
