Status Quo frontman Francis Rossi has paid tribute to his bandmate, Rick Parfitt, who died aged 68 on Christmas Eve.
Rossi describing Parfitt as “the archetypal rock star”, “one of the originals” who “never lost his joy, his mischievous edge and his penchant for living life at high speed, high volume, high risk”.
The musician died on Saturday after suffering from a severe infection while in a Spanish hospital, which he had visited on Thursday due to complications with a pre-existing shoulder injury.
There had been concern about his health for many years. He had survived several heart attacks and a cancer scare.
Rossi said in a statement: “Rick Parfitt had been a part of my story for 50 years. Without doubt the longest relationship of my life: this was also the most satisfying, frustrating, creative and fluid.
“From those early days, we worked together to create the Quo sound, look and hits. We spent years on the road, on the stage and in the studio, rarely far from each other, honing what we did.
“We were a team, a double act, a partnership and yet also two very different people, handling the pressures of growing older, constant touring, dealing with success and keeping the creative flame burning in different ways.”
Rossi said Parfitt “developed his own sound, his own style” and casually inspired a generation of guitar players.
“Rick was the archetypal rock star, one of the originals, he never lost his joy, his mischievous edge and his penchant for living life at high speed, high volume, high risk,” he added. “His life was never boring, he was louder and faster and more carefree than the rest of us.
“There were any number of incidents along the way, times when he strayed into areas of true danger and yet losing him now is still a shock. Even in a year that has claimed so many of our best, including now George Michael, Rick Parfitt stands out. I was not ready for this.”
From 1967, Parfitt helped steer Status Quo to become one of British rock’s staple acts. Hits such as Rockin’ All Over the World became immortalised when they opened the historic Live Aid concert in 1985 in a performance broadcast globally.
In 2015, the band eventually passed a milestone enjoyed by only a handful of musicians, spending a total of 500 weeks in the UK album charts.

Chrissy Teigen's Daughter Luna Gets Her First Tooth, Supermodel Continues to Joke About Revealing AMAs Dress
Baby Luna will soon be ready to eat her mother's cooking.

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend both shared an adorable photo of their 7-month-old daughter wearing a "Little Legend" onesie while posing with the family bulldog, Puddy. The 30-year-old supermodel's mother, Vilailuck, commented on the photo of her granddaughter, writing: "I got one tooth now."
Luna's first tooth comes after her mom posted about her baby girl's "first savory bite," and the same week as Teigen made headlines for the thigh-baring -- to say the least -- dress she wore to Sunday's American Music Awards.
After jokingly apologizing on Monday "to anyone harmed mentally or physically by my hooha," Teigen shared a Family Guy meme that she compared to her AMAs outfit. "'Hey baby. Do those legs go all the way up?'" she quoted. "Dead. Thank you @qween.memes #familyguy #spongebobsquarebodinaworldofbooty."
Teigen also clapped back at some of her critics during a Thanksgiving-themed Twitter Q&A on Wednesday. When a commenter named Alivia pointed out that she “could’ve just worn pants” to the event, the Sports Illustrated swimsuit model responded, "Well, Alivia, hindsight is 20/20. Just like your mom when she named you with an ‘A’ instead of an ‘O.’ ”

Jojo Pays Tribute to Selena Quintanilla's "Dreaming of You"
We can't get enough of the Selena Quintanilla covers and Jojo is the latest Hollywood star to pay tribute the late singer.
It all went down while Jojo hosted an intimate performance in Selena's hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas and she surprised the audience by singing her hit "Dreaming of You."
And judging by the audience's response, they loved it!
"I had the pleasure of seeing the Selena Statue, paying respect, and I'm just reminded of the amazing, amazing contribution that she made to music, and how her spirit is still with us today," the 25-year-old star told the crowd. "I just wanted to pay homage and do 'Dreaming of You' tonight. I hope I do it justice."
And you did, Jojo!
The "FAB." singer also shared a photo of herself on Instagram posing with the Queen of Tejano Music's statue and captioned the post with, "Dreaming of You."
Already a Grammy winner and owner of a clothing line and a boutique-salon, Selena was shot and killed by the founder of her first fan club on March 31, 1995. She was 23. The Texas-born singer was a pioneer for many artists as she seamlessly crossed over from the Spanish market and into the English market. Shortly after her death, the star's story was brought to life in the biopic Selena starring Jennifer Lopez.
Earlier this month Jojo released her third studio album titled Mad Love featuring tracks with Wiz Khalifa, Remy Ma, and Alessia Cara.

Criss Angel Updates Fans on His Son's Battle With Cancer: "I Want Him to Live a Long, Happy, Fruitful Life''
Criss Angel is the first to admit that his toddler's battle with cancer has been "life changing."
Yes, he's worked with children battling different health ailments for decades. But when his son with girlfriend Shaunyl Benson was diagnosed in 2015, his outlook on the world around him completely altered.
"When you have a child that has this horrendous disease, you can relate to the families from a different perspective," he shared with E! News exclusively. "So Shaunyl and I made the decision to use this in a positive way. You know, this is so much bigger than me."
This summer, the Las Vegas performer released a music video with Dee Snider titled "We're Not Gonna Take It." In addition, he's planning a huge fundraiser titled the Criss Angel HELP charity event with tickets available now.
Scheduled for September 12 at the Luxor Hotel & Casino, the star-studded fundraiser has received backing from fellow Las Vegas performers including Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez and Céline Dion. And the support continues to grow as the date gets closer.
"It's amazing. You know, people love children, and people are good when it really comes down to it," he shared with E! News. "I personally called every single celebrity up myself. It took me some time to do, but I've called every single person. And I appealed to them on behalf of these children and every single person—outside of two—said yes. And I won't say what two."
As for his son, Johnny Crisstopher Sarantakos, he recently enjoyed a trip to the Disneyland Resort with family where he had an "amazing time." He also got to meet a special character that raised his spirits in more ways than one.
"You know, Johnny had a rough time going through chemo, his treatments, blood transfusions, spinal taps, and he has Mickey Mouse that he loves to watch," Criss explained. "So, when he went to meet Mickey Mouse in person he had a smile from ear to ear. So excited, we had such beautiful time together as a family."
And while some days are better than others, Criss has high hopes for his son's future.
"I think Johnny is a very special boy and I think he's going to be more successful than I ever was," he shared with us. "I just want him to be happy and I want him to live a long happy fruitful life."
